Punjab Kings (PBKS) will face Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. PBKS had an outstanding run under Shreyas Iyer and finished the league stage as table toppers with nine wins in 14 matches. RCB too were also top-notch and won nine out of their 14 games.

Both RCB and PBKS are yet to win an IPL trophy, and this is a great opportunity for both teams to end their drought. RCB have reached the final thrice, while PBKS (formerly Kings XI Punjab) played the final in 2014, where they lost to KKR. A win in Qualifier 1 would give the winner a direct entry into the final.

What Happens If PBKS vs RCB Is Washed Out?

Both teams would want the rain to stay away from the contest. The good news is that the chances of rain are extremely low in Chandigarh on May 29. However, if it does rain and the match is washed out, it will be a big setback to RCB, although PBKS won't mind it much. This is because the team that finished higher in the table will progress to the final. There is no reserve day for Qualifier 1, so if the rain plays spoilsport, PBKS will qualify for the final.

GT and MI are the other two teams that have qualified for the playoffs. GT held the number one position for a long time during IPL 2025, but they were unfortunate to miss out on the top two finish due to an inferior run rate. The defeats to CSK and LSG in the final two games did not help. Had they won either of the two games, they would have qualified along with PBKS.

MI, on the other hand, blew hot and cold. After a slow start to the season, they bounced back in style to qualify for the playoffs. The winner of the Eliminator will face the loser of Qualifier 1 between RCB and PBKS.
