Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ended their campaign in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with a defeat in their last match of the campaign against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in thrilling fashion by 6 wickets. This was despite a valiant knock of 118 in the first innings by captain Rishabh Pant who roared back into form. LSG thus finished their campaign in the 6th spot. The team's owner Sanjiv Goenka, has now sent a message to captain Pant and the whole team after the defeat.
In a heartfelt message on his X account after the defeat against RCB, Sanjiv Goenka praised the fighting spirit, unity and resilience of the team despite not qualifying for the playoffs. He then went on to thank Rishabh Pant for leading the side with heart. He also thanked mentor Zaheer Khan, head coach Justin Langer and the entire support staff for their efforts behind the scenes.
Goenka also sent a message out to the fans and also the Indian Wheelchair Cricket team for inspiring them.
"As this IPL season comes to a close for @LucknowIPL we look back at a journey filled with both triumphs and challenges. What stood out was the fighting spirit, unity, and resilience of our team. We stayed committed, backed each other, and never gave up," Goenka read.
"Thank you @RishabhPant17 for leading with heart, and to every player in the squad for giving it their all. Grateful to @ImZaheer, Justin Langer, Vijay Dahiya, and the entire management and support staff – coaches, physios, analysts, and ground staff – for their tireless efforts behind the scenes. To our fans, thank you for your unwavering support and for being part of this journey with us. A special mention to @Somjeet_Singh07 and the Indian Wheelchair Cricket Team for the encouragement and inspiration. On to the next season. We will come back stronger. #LSG #IPL2025," he added.

Jitesh Sharma Guides RCB To Win

In the match, RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. After a stuttering start, the duo of Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Singh smashed the RCB bowlers all over the park. Marsh departed after scoring 67, but Pant roared back into form as he smashed his second IPL hundred, with a brilliant 118 from 61 balls. LSG scored 227/3 at the end of the 20 overs.
RCB got off to a good start in the run-chase with VIrat Kohli scoring a record 62nd half-century. After they lost a couple of wickets in the middle, captain Jitesh Sharma stole the show with an 85-run knock. He stitched an unbeaten 107-run stand for the fifth wicket with Mayank Agarwal, as they guided RCB to a 4-wicket win, as they finished in the second spot in the points table.
