Jitesh Sharma Creates History; Breaks MS Dhoni's Record To Become 1st Player In The World To Achieve THIS Feat (Source: BCCI/IPL)
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) qualified for Qualifier 1 after nine years in the IPL, beating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by six wickets in the final league game. The win wasn't easy, and at one point it looked like they'll have to play the Eliminator against Mumbai Indians, but a brutal knock of 85 in 33 balls by Jitesh Sharma pulled off a magnificent win for RCB.
Opting to bowl, RCB were left reeling by a brutal onslaught by Rishabh Pant, who scored 118 in 61 balls to help LSG post a daunting 227-3 in 20 overs.
Phil Salt (30) and Virat Kohli (54) got RCB off to a flier and added 61 runs for the first wicket in 5.4 overs. The blistering partnership was followed by a mini-collapse as the team slipped to 123-4 in the 12th over. With Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma at the crease, RCB made a stunning comeback with a century stand and pulled off a magnificent win. Mayank Agarwal also made a significant contribution and scored a 23-ball 41.
Jitesh Sharma Creates History
Meanwhile, the 85-run knock by Jitesh Sharma helped him create history. This was the highest score by a No.6 or lower batter in successful IPL run chases. The record was previously held by MS Dhoni, who scored 70 in 34 balls against RCB in IPL 2018.
