The league stage of IPL 2025 ended with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and moving to the second spot in the IPL 2025 points table. Led by Jitesh Sharma, RCB were at the third spot before the start of the fixture. While they had already qualified for the playoffs, they needed a win to finish in the top two.
RCB's win saw Gujarat Titans lose their second spot and they are now at the third spot. The changes in the points table will see RCB and PBKS locking horns in the first qualifier on May 29.
Under the IPL's rules, the top two teams get 2 chances to make it to the final. RCB will take on PBKS in the first qualifier of IPL 2025. The winner of this game will book its spot in the final while the losing team will get one more chance.
After the first qualifier, all eyes will be on the eliminator, where fourth-placed Mumbai Indians will face third-placed Gujarat Titans on May 30. The winning team of the eliminator will face the losing team of the first qualifier in the second qualifier on June 1. The winner of the second qualifier will meet the winning team of the first qualifier in the final on June 3.
RCB chased down the big target of 228 against LSG in the 19th over. Stand-in captain, Jitesh Sharma did the job for RCB and remained unbeaten on 85 off just 33 balls. Mayank Agarwal scored an unbeaten 41 off 23 balls. They added 107 runs for the fifth wicket.
Virat Kohli played a crucial role in the win and scored 54 off 30 balls. Courtesy of his knock, RCB got off to a quick start and they were always in contention to chase down the target. RCB and PBKS have been part of IPL since the league's inception but have never won the elusive title.
