Cristiano Ronaldo set social media on fire with a cryptic post that appears to confirm his exit from Al Nassr on Tuesday. The 39-year-old, who made his big-money move to the Saudi Arabian club in 2023, reportedly earned up to $200 million a year from the deal.
However, the Portugal football icon took to X (formerly Twitter) and dropped a message that fans and pundits are interpreting as a potential farewell.
"This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all," Ronaldo wrote on X.
A news report by Spanish outlet Marca claimed exactly a week ago that a 'storm is raging' and an 'earthquake' could happen at Al-Nassr.
Ronaldo's contract expires on June 30, and both parties have yet to come to terms. Their distance has only increased following Al-Nassr's trophyless campaign.
After yet another disappointing loss against Al-Fateh and the Asian Champions League slipping away from the grasp, it seems the end is indeed near for Ronaldo. The 39-year-old scored from a corner in the 41st minute of the game, but Al-Nassr ultimately lost the game by a margin of 3-2.
Despite scoring 92 goals in 104 games for the SPL side, Ronaldo's contributions have been below par lately. His frustrations have also been visible on the field as his team was eliminated from the Asian Champions League. But Ronaldo did reach 800 club career goals, 936 career goals in total and won his second Saudi Pro League Golden Boot in two years.
Meanwhile, the report also claimed that an unnamed Brazilian club has sent Ronaldo's camp a 'major offer'. Palmeiras, Botafogo, Flamengo or Fluminense have emerged as possible destinations, and if Ronaldo does accept the offer, it could open the doors for a spot at the new Club World Cup.
Multiple media reports claim that the Portuguese star could return to his roots at Sporting Lisbon. Ronaldo had left Sporting for Manchester United way back in 2003.
