The highly anticipated Test series between England and India, which will take place from June 20 to August 4, will be covered by JioStar and Sony Pictures Networks India in a major move for the sports broadcasting sector. A five-Test series will kick off India's 2025–2027 World Test Championship season. The series is highly anticipated because it will be India's first series since Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket. Shubman Gill will be in charge of the youthful squad.
Under this agreement, SPNI will maintain the right to broadcast on television through Sony Entertainment Television, while JioStar will exclusively live stream all of India's tours of England, including Tests, ODIs, and T20 Internationals, on its digital platform JioHotstar. By ensuring that Indian cricket fans have easy access to material on both traditional and digital television platforms, the alliance hopes to support the expanding trend of collaborative innovation in sports media distribution.
Sanjog Gupta, CEO – Sports and Live Experiences, JioStar, said: “This collaboration is a win-win for all stakeholders involved — especially Indian cricket fans — and serves the broader sporting landscape. The combination of JioHotstar’s deep digital footprint with SPNI’s broadcast network will universalise access to India’s tours of England. As the habitual destination for cricket viewing, JioHotstar is committed to offering millions of fans inclusive, intuitive, interactive, and immersive viewing experiences. We will continue to leverage the power of our storytelling, consumer-focused product features, and connectivity to unlock infinite possibilities of serving fans on our platforms.”
The Test series starts on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds, and then moves on to Birmingham on July 2, Lord's on July 10, Manchester on July 23, and finally, The Oval on July 31. Three ODIs and five T20Is will be played during India's 2026 white-ball visit of England as part of the agreement.
Gaurav Banerjee, MD and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India, added: “We are thrilled to bring this fantastic partnership to cricket fans for India’s tour to England! Backed by the power of the Sony TV network and the digital prowess of JioStar — this first-of-its-kind partnership will hope to redefine cricket coverage. Our deep thanks to our partners in the ECB for their support.”
Through an eight-year agreement that ran through 2031, Sony Pictures Networks India purchased the exclusive Indian rights to all England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) products in 2023.
