BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia revealed that the Indian cricket governing body has invited the chief of the defense staff as well the chief of the army, navy, and air staff.
“The Board salutes the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces, whose heroic efforts under Operation Sindoor continue to protect and inspire the nation. As a tribute, we have decided to dedicate the closing ceremony to the armed forces,” said BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia in an interaction with Sportstar.
The same publication also reported that the event will feature a performance by the military band before a musical ceremony is held.
For those unversed, India launched a counter-strike on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) on the intervening night of May 6 and 7, following the barbaric Terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam.
Later, the IAF retaliated strongly to the offensive action by Pakistan before a ceasefire was announced on May 10.
The 2025 IPL was suspended for a week before the tournament resumed on May 17. The league's final was originally scheduled to be played on May 25 in Kolkata. However, it was moved to Ahmedabad in the revised schedule due to concerns over weather and a major rain threat with the early onset of monsoon in various parts of the country.
The playoffs will begin on May 29, with Mullanpur set to host the first qualifier and eliminator.
Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Mumbai Indians (MI) have qualified for the second round.
