After Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket, the whole nation was awaiting to see who would replace him as the new captain in the longest format of the game. As the squad for the series against England was announced, it was confirmed that Shubman Gill will become the new Test skipper for the Indian team. After this was confirmed. legendary batter and former India captain himself, Sunil Gavaskar, shared some big advice for the new India captain.
In an interaction with Sports Tak, Sunil Gavaskar said that there is a big difference between being a regular member of the team, and being the captain. He suggested that Shubman Gill should behave in a way that the other players respect him. It is this behaviour that is more important than the captain's performance.
“There is always pressure on the player who gets elected as India's captain as there is a big difference between being a member of the team and being the captain," Gavaskar said.
“Because when you are a team member, you generally just interact with players close to you, but when you become the captain, you should behave in a way that the other players in the team respect you, and a captain's behaviour is more important than his performance," he added.
