Rashid Khan, the Gujarat Titans' seasoned spinner, registered an unwanted record to his name. He conceded the most sixes (31) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) season during Sunday's match against Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
Rashid is now level with Gujarat Titans' frontline seamer Mohammed Siraj. Rashid was smashed for three sixes against the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
Rashid finished his four-over spell conceding 42 runs. His only exploit from the match was the scalp of Devon Conway, who scored 52 off 35 before being dismissed by Rashid in the 14th over.
Rashid, however, ended the league stage of IPL 2025 with nine wickets in 14 matches - his worst average of 53.66 since his IPL debut in 2017. Now, if he cannot take two wickets in the playoffs, it will be his worst-ever season in the T20 league.
Siraj registered the record in 2022 while playing for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal of Rajasthan Royals and Wanindu Hasaranga of RCB - both of whom conceded 30 sixes in IPL 2022 and 2024, respectively. In the top-five list, former CSK star Dwayne Bravo remains at the bottom, having conceded 29 sixes in IPL 2018.
Rashid joined the Titans in 2022, when he picked up 19 wickets to help them win the IPL in their debut season. He has been a consistent performer for the franchise. In 2023, he took 27 wickets, including GT’s first-ever IPL hat-trick against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He then shone bright with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 79 off 32 balls against Mumbai Indians.
Rashid, who has played 135 matches so far, has picked up 158 wickets at an average of 23.63 and an economy of 7. For GT, he took 65 wickets in 59 matches; earlier, he was with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
