How Can Mumbai Indians Finish In Top Two Heading Into IPL 2025 Playoffs?

Mumbai Indians (MI) are all set to take on Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday (May 26). MI have had an incredible run in the IPL 2025. They were lagging behind at the bottom end of the points table in the first half of the tournament, winning just one out of their first five matches. However, they went on an incredible run thereafter, winning seven out of their next eight matches, and qualified for the playoffs. Now, they have a chance to finish in the top two of the table as well.
MI are currently in the 4th spot of the points table with 16 points from 13 games. They also have the best Net Run Rate of 1.292, which is the best among all teams right now. If they win their match against PBKS, then they will definitely topple league leaders Gujarat Titans (GT), who too are on 18 points with the Net Run Rate of 0.254.
This means that a win would guarantee MI of a spot in the top two irrespective of the result of the final league game of the IPL 2025 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 27 (Tuesday).
How MI Can Finish Top Of IPL 2025 Points Table
RCB are currently on 17 points from 13 games. If they win their final game against LSG, then they will finish in the top of the points table. However, if they lose, and MI win tonight against PBKS, then it will be the Hardik Pandya-led side who finish in the top of the points table.
If MI lose their match tonight, then they are guaranteed to finish fourth.
What Happens If MI Finish In Top Two?
If MI finish in the top two then they will have two chances to qualify for the final that will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3.
They will play Qualifier 1, and if they lose that game, then they will have another shot when they play the winner of the Eliminator in the Qualifer 2.
