- Narine took two wickets vs SRH
- Narine ended the season with 12 scalps
Sunil Narine etched his name in the history books by setting a huge world record of T20 cricket despite Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) 111-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their final match of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Hyderabad.
Narine was the sole shining light for the Knight Riders as they suffered their biggest defeat in IPL history and were also destined for an eighth-place finish on the eve of their first anniversary of their third IPL title win under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy in 2024, which ironically came after beating SRH in the final.
Sunil Narine Creates History
Sunrisers posted a huge total of 278 on the board, which is the third-highest in IPL history and the biggest against the Knight Riders. After a stunning 40-ball 76 by Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen took the game away from the defending champions. KKR only three wickets, out of which two (Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head) were taken by Narine. The West Indies star gave away 42 runs in four overs while taking two scalps.
With his incredible spell, Narine set a huge world record and went past Samit Patel to become the bowlers with the most wickets for one team in IPL history. He is also the first player across the world to have 210 scalps for just one team in T20 cricket across competitions. Narine has taken 192 wickets for KKR in the IPL and 18 years in the now defunct Champions League T20.

Narine also made a mark with the bat with a quick-fire knock of 31 in 16 balls. However, the Ajinkya Rahane-led side failed to build from the quick start provided by the club legend as they were bowled out for 168. Only Manish Pandey (37) and Harshit Rana (34) made more runs than the star all-rounder
Talking about Narine, he joined KKR in 2012 in what was his maiden IPL season and has stayed with them ever since. He has played a key role each of the Knight Riders' three title wins. He also holds the record of winning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award most times (3) in IPL history and taking the most wickets for one team in the league (192).
The 2025 proved to a quiet one for Narine by his extraordinarily high standards as he took just 12 wickets in 12 matches while scoring 246 runs with no half-centuries.
