Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ended their IPL 2025 campaign with a win and defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by 83 runs to finish on a high. The Yellow Army had nothing much to gain from the fixture. But the defeat did have a big impact on GT and they aren't confirmed to finish in the top 2 now.
Despite the win, CSK finished at the last spot in the points table. CSK's last-place finish saw them register an unwanted record. It's the first time that CSK have finished at the last spot in the points table.
CSK were the most consistent team from IPL 2008 to 2019 and made it to the second round of every season they were part of during this period. In 2020, CSK crashed out of the league stage for the first time. They finished at the 7th spot in the 8-team competition.
They bounced back strongly and won the IPL 2021 trophy. In 2022, CSK once again crashed out early and finished at the 9th spot in the 10-team competition. They made a solid return in 2023 and won the trophy for the fifth time.
CSK missed out on making it to the second round of IPL 2024 and finished at the fifth spot after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their last league stage game. It's the first time CSK have crashed out from the league stage of back-to-back seasons.
CSK started IPL 2025 with Ruturaj Gaikwad at the helm. He got injured early in the season and was ruled out after 5 matches. Ruturaj-led CSK managed one win.
Dhoni captained CSK to 3 wins from 9 matches and the Yellow Army finished the season with only 4 wins. Delhi Capitals, Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals are other five teams which have crashed out of the league stage of IPL 2025.
