MS Dhoni addressed his IPL future after Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) last league stage match of IPL 2025 and confirmed that he hasn't taken a call on his future yet. The CSK legend will decide his IPL future after the next 4-5 months. "It's good. I won't say it was housefull today. We didn't have a good season, it was one of those perfect performances. We haven't caught very well, but the catching was good today," Dhoni said.
"It depends. I have 4-5 months to decide, there's no hurry. Need to keep the body fit. You have to be at your best. If cricketers start retiring for their performance, some of them will retire at 22. Will go back to Ranchi, enjoy a few back rides. I am not saying I am done, not saying I am coming back. I have the luxury of timing. Will think about it and then decide," Dhoni added.
MS Dhoni retired from international cricket in August 2020 but continues to play IPL. He captained CSK till 2023. Dhoni-led CSK won 2 IPL trophies after his retirement from international cricket.
Since Dhoni hadn't played international cricket since 2019, CSK retained him in the uncapped category for Rs 4 crore before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. And he will be paid the same amount if Dhoni decides to play another IPL season.
CSK finish at last spot
CSK had a forgettable IPL 2025 season and they finished at the last spot in the points table. The five-time IPL Champions only managed to win 4 out of their 14 matches. They won 1 out of their first 5 matches under Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Dhoni took over captaincy after Ruturaj was ruled out of the season due to an elbow injury. Dhoni-led CSK registered 3 wins in 9 matches. CSK's win over Gujarat Titans has jeopardised their chances of finishing in the top 2.
