Punjab Kings (PBKS) played out a nail-biting match in the 66th game of the IPL 2025 as they lost their match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur by six wickets. While PBKS have already qualified for the playoffs, they squandered their chance of going top of the table by overthrowing Gujarat Titans in the position. Their loss means that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will be pretty happy, as their chances of finishing in the top two of the points table increase manyfold.
Punjab Kings now have 17 points from 13 games, which is the same as RCB. PBKS are on second because of a better Net Run Rate of +0.327 as compared to RCB's +0.255. If RCB win their remaining match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 27 (Tuesday), and PBKS lose their final league stage match against Mumbai Indians (MI) on May 26 (Monday), then it will be RCB who will qualify. This is because they will have 19 points, while PBKS will be on 17.

What Happens If Gujarat Titans Lose Their Final Game?

If GT lose their final match of the season against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 25 (Sunday), then they will remain on 18 points. This will means that RCB will finish in the top two if they win their final match, irrespective of whether PBKS win their final match.

Why RCB Would Want To Finish In Top Two?

If RCB finish in the top two then they will have two chances to qualify for the final that will be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium on June 3.
They will play Qualifier 1, and if they lose that game, then they will have another shot when they play the winner of the Eliminator in the Qualifer 2.
