The BCCI announced the squad for the five-match Test series against England. The series gets underway on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. India will be without Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who announced their retirements from the format.
The biggest task for the selectors was to pick a new captain following the retirement of Rohit Sharma. The selectors opted to go in with Shubman Gill, given his terrific performance in the IPL 2025, where he led GT to the playoffs.

The selectors also picked a new vice-captain for the Test team. Jasprit Bumrah was the vice-captain on the Australia tour and led India in the absence of Rohit Sharma. However, Bumrah was not retained as the vice-captain due to his workload management. The Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee instead named Rishabh Pant as Shubman Gill's deputy.

Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, and Akash Deep, along with Jasprit Bumrah, were the fast bowlers selected.
