India Squad For England Tour Announced; 25-Year-Old Pips Jasprit Bumrah To Become 37th Test Captain (Source: AP)

The India squad for the five-match Test series against England has been announced. Shubman Gill has been named the captain of the side. Gill takes over the leadership reins from Rohit Sharma, who announced his retirement from the format. Virat Kohli too followed Rohit and quit Test cricket ahead of the series. The selectors picked Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair in the squad as replacements for the star duo.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Dhruv Jurel, were expectedly retained in the squad. In what comes as a body blow to India, Mohammed Shami failed to book a flight to England. Shami is among the best pacers in the country, but his fitness was a concern for the selectors. Even though Shami is playing the IPL for SRH, he hasn't played Test cricket for India since the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in 2023.
Jasprit Bumrah will lead the pace attack and will have Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Prasidh Krishna for company. Kuldeep Yadav is the specialist spinner in the squad, while Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar are spin-all-rounders. Nitish Reddy and Shardul Thakur are fast bowling all-rounders in the squad.
