Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings (PBKS) will lock horns with Axar Patel's Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 66th match of IPL 2025 on Saturday (May 24). The fixture will be played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur from 7:30 PM IST. It is a neutral venue for both teams. PBKS are at the second spot in the IPL 2025 points table while DC are at the fifth spot. DC are already out of IPL 2025.
PBKS are aiming to finish in the top two. They can climb to the top spot after their penultimate fixture of the league stage. Here's how it can happen -
Punjab Kings have 17 points in their account at an NRR of +0.389. They have registered 8 wins from 13 matches. Top-placed Gujarat Titans have 9 wins from 13 matches. They have 18 points in their account.
PBKS can dethrone GT from the top with a win in today's fixture as it will make them the only team with 19 points. But a defeat will put their hopes of finishing in the top two in jeopardy.
If PBKS lose their last two matches, then they will stay on 17 points. In this case, GT, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Mumbai Indians can finish in top 2.
But if PBKS win their next 2 matches, then they will remain the only team to finish with more than 20 points. One win in the remaining two matches won't guarantee PBKS a top-two finish.
For now, PBKS would aim to win their penultimate league stage match and move to the top spot in the IPL 2025 points table. Shreyas suffered a finger injury before their game against Rajasthan Royals. He played that game as an Impact Player and did not come out to field. Shashank Singh led PBKS in his absence. PBKS have never won the IPL trophy.
