Not KL Rahul Or Karun Nair! 25-Year-Old Star Likely To Replace Virat Kohli At No.4 In Tests: Report

India are all set to travel to England to take on the Three Lions in a five-match Test series, which will mark the beginning of their campaign in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle. This series will also mark a tectonic shift in Indian Test Cricket as this will be the first time that the team will be playing post the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the longest format of the game. Virat's departure means that India will need someone to fill in for him at the all-important no.4 position. While there have been rumours of someone like KL Rahul or even a Karun Nair to replace him, a report says that it is India's captain-elect who will take over in the role.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the vacant no.4 slot left by Virat Kohli is set to be taken up by Shubman Gill. This will be a new position for Gill as he usually comes to bat at no.3.
Shubman Gill is also touted to become the next India Test captain after Rohit Sharma retired. Hence, in a way Gill is set to replace both Kohli and Rohit.

KL Rahul To Open, New Name Likely At No.3

The Cricbuzz report also states that KL Rahul will open the innings in all likelihood alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. The report also states that Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair are also likely to make it to the squad owing to ther rich vein of form in domestic cricket. It is likely that one of these two players will be batting at no,3
There were also talks of Cheteshwar Pujara making a comeback into the squad for the no.3 position, according to the report. The selectors have however categorically stated that they want to look ahead at the future.
