Cristiano Ronaldo is currently playing for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League.
Cristiano Ronaldo is now 40, but he refuses to slow down. That is because his biological age is much younger than his actual age.
Currently playing for Al-Nassr FC, Ronaldo's biological age, as per WHOOP - a fitness tech company for which he is a brand ambassador - is 28.9 years. The company conducted some physiological assessments to reveal the Portuguese legend's biological age, which is more than ten years younger than his actual age.
The revelation is quite startling, and it has led to debates over how much longer he may continue to play football. Ronaldo joined Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in 2023 after stints with Real Madrid, Juventus, and Manchester United, where he had two separate stints.
What is biological age, and how is it measured?
Age is calculated chronologically as per your date of birth, but this has nothing to do with the status of the various systems in your body. This is called your biological age.
WHOOP utilises data collected from next-generation wearable sensors to track multiple physiological markers such as heart rate variability, sleep, and recovery. After the data syncs, WHOOP determines a user-specific biological age, which gives an understanding of his or her health and fitness level.
WHOOP's new research revealed that even at 40 years old, Ronaldo's body has reached peak adult form - capable of playing like a youth - and his recovery after a match is also quick, much like that of a player in their late 20s. These figures further validate his rigorous training regimen, discipline, and diet.
After learning of his biological age, Ronaldo expressed shock, stating, "I can't believe it's so good. 28.9."
He then said he would play football for another 10 years, continuing his career until 50. This is quite astonishing, as most players retire from the game in their 30s, with the average retirement age being the mid-30s.
