India To Develop League Culture, 13 Sports To See A League This Year

Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, while speaking to reporters in Delhi, said that league culture will be very important to develop sports and sportspersons. As many as 13 sports will see a league in 2025. 2 sports, namely, Hockey and Kabaddi, already have leagues for both men and women and the same will be continued.
Shooting and Yoga Asana will also see competitive and professional leagues. Shooting league is scheduled for November 24 later this year while Yoga Asana is slated to start in end September, 2025.
Process is also underway to finalise leagues in Rugby and cycling - a sport that has been very close to Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya’s heart and is a push for India’s Fit India Movement.
7 sports, namely - basketball, badminton, archery, boxing, wrestling, white water sports and polo - league also to be finalised very soon.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya added, “the reason behind this decision is to promote sports and the only way is making it more popular. League culture is a type of a festival - see cricket leagues and how it’s celebrated. The idea is to bring a community together and we are continuously developing in sports so we need innovation.”
The leagues will be franchise-based and will have the help of corporate. The leagues will be for both men and women.
