KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Rishabh Pant hit back at 'fake news'
  • Pant appeared confident he will stay at LSG in IPL 2026
  • Pant's debut season at the franchise has been a forgettable one
Less than two hours before Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) take the field against Gujarat Titans (GT) in their penultimate match of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rishabh Pant took to X and slammed a reporter for claiming that he will be released.
Pant reacted to a report that claimed the Super Giants will release him ahead of the 2026 season. For those unversed, the 27-year-old was purchased for Rs. 27 crore by the Sanjiv Goenka-owned franchise at the 2025 IPL Mega Auction in Jeddah last year, making him the league's most expensive player in history.
However, Pant has had a nightmare season so far as he has made just 135 runs in 11 innings with the bat at an average of 12.27 and a strike-rate of 100. The Indian cricket superstar has just one half-century to his name. In his debut season as captain, the Super Giants have failed to qualify for the playoffs and are currently in seventh place with five wins in 12 matches.
A reporter claimed on X that LSG will release Pant ahead of next season due to his price tag. Pant appeared confident that he had the full support of the franchise and hit back. The ex-Delhi Capitals skipper claimed the news to be fake and accused the individual of having an agenda.
"I understand fake News gives more traction To content but let’s not built everything around it . Little sense and credible news will help more rather making fake news with agenda . Thanks have a good day . Let’s be responsible and sensible what we put out on social media," wrote Pant on X.
Rishabh Pant X post IPL 2025
Pant's horror season in the 2025 IPL has cast major doubt on his chance of earning a recall to the Indian T20I side. Pant last played in the shortest format for India in July last year and was rested for future assignments alongside other players of the Test team. Despite his white-ball cricket struggles, Pant remains a key part of the Indian Test team and is among the contenders to be named the new captain or vice-captain.
