Delhi Capitals fast bowler Mukesh Kumar has been fined 10 per cent of his match fee by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. Mukesh has also been handed a demerit point as Delhi Capitals exited the IPL 2025 following their 59-run defeat to Mumbai Indians.
The pacer was punished for a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the abuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures.
“Mukesh Kumar admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 (Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match) and accepted the Match Referee's sanction,” the IPL said in a release. “For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding.”
Mukesh's frustration stemmed from his inability to contain the Mumbai Indians in the final over of their innings, as they managed to accumulate crucial runs that ultimately gave their bowlers a comfortable cushion to defend.
Suryakumar’s masterclass, a 43-ball 73, helped MI set up a competitive 181-run target for DC on a sticky wicket.
The Capitals, who came into the contest with their fair share of chances to reach the final four, saw their chances wane when MI collected 48 runs in the last two overs, with 27 of them coming off the penultimate over bowled by Mukesh, who expressed his frustration facing the onslaught.
Delhi never posed any danger to MI while chasing the target as their top-order batters bowed out meekly, leaving the team tattered at 27 for 3 in five overs, with Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult and Will Jacks striking for MI.
With Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah piercing through the middle order, DC could not recover from a poor start, and they were eventually bowled out for 121 with ten balls to spare. Sameer Rizvi was the highest scorer for DC as he scored 39 off 35 balls.
