The ties between India and Pakistan are at their lowest point in recent years following the latter's unprovoked attack on Indian borders, after the Indian Army launched Operation Sindoor to eliminate terror base camps in Pakistan and PoK. Even though an official ceasfire has been agreed between the two countries, India are still severing all ties with Pakistan diplomatically. Cricket between the two nations is also set to be affected, and a major decision is expected to be taken regarding the T20 Word Cup 2026, where the two sides might face each other again.

An International Cricket Council (ICC) meeting is scheduled to take place from July 17-20. In this meeting the future of the India vs Pakistan matches in the T20 World Cup might be discussed. There is a high chance that the two nations would have been placed in the same group, as has happened in most ICC events in the past. However, this time, te ICC might take the decision of not placing them in the same group, according to a report by PTI.

However, if the situation arises, a match between India and Pakistan will take place if both teams reach the knockout stages.

"The issue is bound to come up for discussion at the annual conference. While prospect of India and Pakistan not playing in ICC knockouts is unlikely, not drawing them in the same group, which has been the norm at ICC events, is a possibility," a source in the BCCI told PTI.

The Asia Cup 2025 is most likely scheduled for September. However, according to a report by The Indian Express, the BCCI has decided to opt out of the tournament since the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is headed by Pakistan interior minister Mohsin Naqvi. This means that the tournament will not be held at all.

However, BCCI secreatry Devajeet Saikia has stated that they haven't fiven a thought about the Asia Cup 2025 as of now, as they are concetrating on the completion of the IPL 2025, and the upcoming India vs England series.
