Shubman Gill has secretly kicked off preparations for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. The right-handed batsman is currently part of Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2025. He has captained GT to the playoffs and they are now aiming for a top-two finish. GT had a training session on Wednesday (May 21) before their game against Lucknow Super Giants, scheduled to be played on May 22.
Shubman was spotted secretly training for the England Test series as he trained with the red ball. The upcoming series will be of utmost importance for Shubman and he is not leaving any stone unturned for the series.
Shubman Gill likely to be named captain
Shubman Gill is likely to be named the captain of the Test team for the five-match series. Multiple reports have suggested that Shubman is the front-runner for the job and will soon be unveiled as the new Test captain. The BCCI is likely to make the official announcement about it in a press conference this week.
Before the start of the Test series, India A will play two unofficial Test matches against England Lions. Shubman and Sai Sudharsan will land in England before the second unofficial Test match.
After the two-match unofficial Test series, India A will take on India in an intra-squad match before the start of the Test series.
Shubman excelling on captanicy front
Shubman has excelled on the captaincy front in IPL 2025 and GT are at the top spot in the points table. The IPL 2022 Champions have 9 wins and 18 points. They have 2 matches left. GT are favourites to finish in the top two.
They will take on Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings in their last two league stage matches. Both the matches will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
