Mumbai Indians have announced the replacements for the three foreign recruits - England's Will Jacks and the South African duo of Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch, who are set to leave for national duty following the team's final league match on May 26. Jonny Bairstow, Richard Gleeson, and Charith Asalanka have been named as those who will enter the squad.
"Jacks will be replaced by English wicketkeeper-batter Jonny Bairstow, who joins the squad at a price of INR 5.25 crore," the IPL stated in an official release.
"English pacer Richard Gleeson will come in for Ryan Rickelton at a reserve price of Rs one crore, while Sri Lankan batter Charith Asalanka replaces Corbin Bosch at Rs 75 lakh."
However, it is essential to note that the three players can only enter the fray from the playoffs stage, provided MI secure qualification for the knockout rounds.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are currently in the top four and must defeat Delhi Capitals to confirm their place in the playoffs. The decisive showdown will take place on Wednesday. MI is on 14 points while Delhi Capitals sit on 13 points, but with the match being played at the Wankhede Stadium, the hosts are firm favourites. If MI does go on to win the game, then it will take them to 16 points and beyond Delhi's reach.
Mumbai Indians' form and all-round depth tilt the scales in their favour, even though they are coming off a narrow loss to Gujarat Titans nearly a fortnight ago. This was after they recorded six consecutive wins before emerging as one of the most formidable teams in the competition.
