KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Chinnaswamy Stadium will not host RCB's clash vs SRH
- The RCB-KKR match was washed out due to rain
- RCB will host SRH before playing LSG
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will not get another chance to play in front of their passionate home fans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium as their final home game of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will no longer be played in Bengaluru.
The match has been moved to the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on the same date and day. Hence, the fixture will take place on Friday (May 23) and start at 7:30 PM IST.
The late change has been forced due to the grim weather in Bengaluru with a Yellow Alert issued in the city. It is worth remembering that RCB's previous home against Kolkata Knight Riders on Saturday (May 17) was washed out due to rain without a ball bowled in Bengaluru. This match was supposed to be the first game in the league post the restart.
"The TATA IPL Match No. 65 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has been relocated to the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, due to unfavourable weather conditions in Bengaluru," a statement issued by the IPL governing council stated.
The BCCI has also decided to allocate an extra hour to the playing conditions of each match to negate the rain threat and avoid washouts.
Since then, the city of Bengaluru has seen heavy rains and floods have been reported over the last few days in various parts of the city.
While SRH are knocked out of the race to qualify for the playoffs, RCB have secured a place. As things stand, they have their destiny in their own hands as two wins in two will secure them elusive top two spot. However, another washout would have jeopardised their hopes.
RCB will now play their final two league stage matches of the tournament in Lucknow as they will face Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on May 27 at the venue in their final game.
Meanwhile, SRH are currently in Lucknow having played at the venue on Monday (May 19) against LSG.
