The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) final is set to be moved away from the Eden Gardens in Kolkata as originally scheduled, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) moving the summit clash to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Indian cricket governing body held a series of meeting over the new venue for the marquee fixture, which is scheduled to take place on June 3. It is worth noting that while the game was originally awarded to Kolkata on May 25, the new schedule released post the league's suspension for a week saw no venues named for the playoff before Tuesday's official confirmation.
BCCI also confirmed that two playoff matches could be held at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh.
"Hyderabad and Kolkata were initially supposed to host the last four games before the one week suspension of the tournament. The new venues for the Playoffs were decided by the IPL Governing Council keeping in mind the weather conditions and other parameters," said the BCCI statement.
The venue, which opened only last year, is the home venue of the Punjab Kings (PBKS) after replacing the iconic Punjab Cricket Assocation (PCA) Stadium in Mohali. The ground is expected to host its first international match later this year. Morever, it is widely rumoured that the newly built venue will host the 2025 ICC Women's Cricket World Cup final.
The BCCI revealed that the first qualifier and eliminator on May 29 and 30 will be played in Mullanpur, while the second qualifier and the final on June 1 and 3 will be hosted by Ahmedabad.
This will mark the third instance of the Narendra Modi Stadium hosting the IPL final. Only Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium has the hosted the marquee clash as many times.
