Harshal Patel etched his name in the history books during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday (May 19) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium, Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Harshal took the important wicket of Aiden Markran, who made a quick-fire knock of 61 in just 38 balls. Patel finished with figures of 1-49 in four overs as the hosts posted a massive total of 205 on the board.
Harshal Patel Creates History
Harshal Patel etched his name in the history books by completing 150 wickets in his IPL career. The 34-year-old became the quickest player in the world to achieve the feat (by balls) and broke a long-standing record of Sri Lankan great Lasith Malinga.

Harshal is also the second quickest player in the world behind Lasith Malinga 150 wickets in IPL history by innings. The Sunrisers star reached the milestone in 114 innings and broke Yuzvendra Chahal's record to be the quickest Indian to complete the milestone.

Harshal Patel's Stunning Strike-Rate
Out of the 13 bowlers to complete 150 wickets in the IPL, Harshal has the best strike-rate, breaking a record long held by Malinga. Infact, the Indian pacer is the first bowler from across the world to have taken more than 150 wickets in the league's history with a strike-rate of less than 16.

Among the 150-wicket club in the IPL, Harshal has the fifth-best bowling average (23.46) with only Malinga, Bumrah, Chahal, and Rashid ahead of him. However, his bowling economy (8.83) is the worst. Him and Dwayne Bravo (8.38) are the only bowlers to take more than 150 wickets at an economy higher than eight.
Harshal is reigning purple cap holder and is one of three players to win it twice, alongside Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Bravo, but the only one to do win it with two different teams. In the 2025 IPL, he has 15 wickets in 11 matches.
