Abhishek Sharma continued his remarkable revival in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season after playing a key role in helping Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Cricket Stadium, Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
Abhishek scored 59 runs in 20 balls to give the Sunrisers a quick start in the massive chase of 206. The 24-year-old's knock helped the Hyderabad-based franchise register a six-wicket victory with 10 balls to spare. The result means LSG were knocked out of the playoff race.
Abhishek Sharma Created History
Abhishek completed his half-century in just 18 balls, marking the fourth instance of him completing the milestone in fewer than 20 in his IPL career. Abhishek is the second player after Nicholas Pooran to achieve the feat four times and the first Indian to register the incredible record. Abhishek went past Jake Fraser-McGurk, who scored a half-century in fewer than 20 balls thrice in the 2024 campaign.
Abhishek is the first player to achieve the feat multiple times in two different seasons. Earlier this season, the left-handed batter hit a 19-ball half-century while on the way to his record-breaking century against the Punjab Kings. Last season, he hit a 16-ball and an 18-ball half-century.
Pooran achieved the feat once each in 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025. Fraser-McGurk got all three in the 2024 campaign.
Abhishek is the first player in the world to achieve the feat four times for the same franchise as Pooran did it once with Kings XI Punjab and thrice with LSG.
