Ajay Jadeja's Bold Take On Future India Star Sai Sudharsan (Credit: BCCI/IPL)
Former India cricketer Ajay Jadeja reserved huge praise for Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Sai Sudharsan, who has been in great form in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Sudharsan and GT captain Shubman Gill stitched an unbeaten 205-run partnership that helped Gujarat cruise to a 10-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. The left-hander looked in his element en route to his brilliant 61-ball 108, while Gill played his part in the partnership, having scored 93 off 53 balls.
Talking about the opening partnership, Jadeja observed that Sudharsan was ahead of Gill on most occasions and had outshone the future India captain on a pitch where Gill just seemed to have struggled a bit early on in terms of timing. Gill is one of the front-runners to lead India in England after Rohit Sharma retired from Test cricket a couple of weeks ago.
“Sai Sudharsan has outshone the future India captain. His batting is pleasing to the eye. It is not like he was only ahead of Shubman in the match against Delhi Capitals. He has looked a better batter than Gill in the previous matches as well. His batting is risk-free as compared to Shubman’s,” he said on Star Sports.
"Sai is playing with a more accomplished cricketer, who plays regularly for the Indian cricket team. Gill was not able to time the ball against Delhi and needed powerful hits to get going, but it was not the case with Sai, who looked at ease,” said Jadeja.
The left-hander has already shown glimpses of a future India star in the making, while Gill is already in the mix of grabbing a leadership role in the national set-up.
Sudharsan, with 617 runs in 12 matches this season, holds the orange cap, with Shubman Gill (601 runs) just behind him in the second spot, having played the same number of games. They will next play Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, followed by Chennai Super Kings on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at the same venue. They have already qualified for the playoffs and would aim to finish the league stages as the No.1 team, leading into the business end of the tournament.
