Punjab Kings was one of the three teams to qualify for the IPL 2025 playoffs on Sunday (May 18). The Shreyas Iyer-led team punched its ticket to the second round after Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) in an away game. PBKS, GT and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are 3 teams which have qualified for the IPL 2025 playoffs.

GT are at the top spot and are followed by RCB. PBKS are at the third spot with 17 points. They can finish in top two. An old clip of Shashank Singh went viral on X after PBKS made it to the second round.

During an interview before IPL 2025, the right-handed batsman predicted that PBKS would finish in the top two. It's after 11 years that PBKS have qualified for the second round and they can also end up in the top 2.

"Punjab Kings number 1. Top 2 pe bol raha hu, Punjab Kings number 1 pe finish karega points table pe (I am saying top 2. Punjab Kings will finish at top spot in the points table)," he said on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube channel.

Shashank has played an important role in PBKS' success and slammed 273 runs with a strike rate of 151.66. Shashank has played vital knocks for PBKS and taken them big totals with his finishing skills.

PBKS retained Shashank for Rs 4 crore before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. He is part of the leadership group and stepped in for Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, who came out for the toss, was subbed out during Rajasthan Royals' chase.

The partnership between Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting has done wonders for PBKS and they have been a dominant force in the tournament. The star duo took Delhi Capitals to their first-ever final in IPL 2020. Iyer didn't lead DC in IPL 2021. They reunited at PBKS and have done their job to perfection.
