Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will make their on-field return in an away game against Rishabh Pant's Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Monday (May 19). The Orange Army played its previous game on May 2. SRH's game against Delhi Capitals, scheduled to be played on May 5, was washed out due to rain.
SRH's have the majority of their players available for selection, barring Travis Head. The star SRH opener is down with COVID-19 and he couldn't travel to India. He will reach the country on the morning of the match and is confirmed to miss the game against LSG.
“Travis is coming in tomorrow morning, he was delayed. He actually had COVID, so he couldn’t travel, so he’ll get in tomorrow morning and we’ll assess how he is after that," SRH's head coach, Daniel Vettori said on the eve of the game.
Head, who was retained by SRH for Rs 14 crore before the IPL 2025 mega-auction, wasn't at his best before the tournament was suspended. He only managed to score 281 runs in 10 innings. His opening partner, Abhishek Sharma only managed 186 runs. His tally includes a century.
The success of SRH's opening pair, comprising Head and Abhishek, was a major reason behind the team's dominance in IPL 2024. SRH's openers' failures have had a big impact on the team's form in IPL 2025.
With only 3 wins from 11 matches, SRH are at the 8th spot in the points table. They are already out of the tournament and can also finish at the last spot. A win over LSG will be enough for them to avoid a last-place finish.
LSG have 5 wins from 11 matches. They need to win the rest of their matches and then hope for the results of other matches to go their way to qualify for the playoffs.
