Gujarat Titans, led by Shubman Gill, have resumed their training after India and Pakistan reached an 'understanding' following 90 hours of hostilities across the northern and western international borders.
The IPL 2025 was suspended by the BCCI last Friday in the wake of escalating tensions between the two neighbours. The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala had to be called off midway due to intense missile and drone attacks by Pakistan in nearby cities like Pathankot.
The 18th season of the league will now resume with a match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants, possibly on May 16. The match between RCB and LSG was postponed last week due to security concerns.
The Gujarat Titans, the table toppers of IPL 2025 with 16 points from 11 matches, hit their home ground - the Narendra Modi Stadium - in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
The Titans have no major hurdles since the BCCI asked franchises to reassemble their squads for the remaining 16 matches, including four playoff games. Barring England's Jos Buttler and South Africa's speedster Gerald Coetzee, all their overseas players stayed back in the wake of the heightened tensions.
"Our entire squad stuck around. Only Jos and Gerald, but they will come back as required," Times of India quoted a franchise official as saying.
This season, GT are among the favourites to win the IPL, with their batters and bowlers in fiery form. Their three batters - Sai Sudharsan (509 runs), Shubman Gill (508 runs), and Jos Buttler (500 runs) - in contention for the Orange Cap.
Their pacer Prasidh Krishna, with 20 wickets, is currently leading the Purple Cap race. He has been ably supported by fellow Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj, who has 15 scalps, and Sai Kishore, with 14 wickets.
According to news agency ANI, the BCCI is planning to conduct the remaining 16 matches at four venues, and they are yet to finalise the list.
