Lamine Yamal stole the show in the Barcelona vs Real Madrid El Clasico on Sunday when he scored the equaliser against Real Madrid in the first half as the Blaugrana clawed back from a two-goal deficit in one of the most dramatic first halves seen at Montjuic.
The 17-year-old sensation scored with his left foot, unleashing a low, curling shot that beat Courtois and landed into the far corner. After scoring, Yamal mimicked Ronaldo’s signature celebration and hit the Calma.
His move immediately drew comparisons to the Portuguese legend’s decisive goal in the 1-1 draw at Camp Nou almost 13 years ago.
Back then, Madrid was visiting Camp Nou after their 5-0 hammering, and Ronaldo's goal sealed the deal for the men in whites. That goal and its celebration went down in El Clasico folklore, and now Yamal’s response in this high-stakes clash may well earn a similar status.
A win puts Barcelona seven clear at the top of the table with three to play, and it does seem that they are on their way to the La Liga title.
Lamine Yamal ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo already?
Cristiano Ronaldo's former teammate, Rio Ferdinand, believes that Yamal, at his current age, is already ahead of Cr7.
“It's just ridiculous what he's done. His ability to take people on. I think the thing that really caught my eye about him, other than the moments of brilliance, is that every part of his left foot was used in that game. He's an artist," Ferdinand told TNT Sports.
“At this age, he's ahead of Cristiano, he's ahead of Messi. His stats alone - he's had 100 appearances at 17! These guys were nowhere near that and he's dominating games, he's defining games.”
