The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come under fire after Bangladesh all-rounder Rishad Hossain made an explosive revelation about how the cricket board handled the evacuation of players in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 amid rising military tensions between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to the media in Dubai, Hossain claimed that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi withheld critical information about drone attacks and tried to convince players to stay and complete the tournament in Karachi. According to Rishad, the PCB also called a key meeting to understand players' concerns but was not transparent about developments in the country. The Pakistani board also wanted to host the remaining PSL games in Karachi, but during the talks, the players raised serious concerns and wanted to depart from the country.
"The PCB chief tried to convince us to continue in Karachi, but he didn't mention the two drone attacks that had happened a day earlier. We later decided Dubai was the only safe option. Credit to the PCB for helping us reach safely," Wisden quoted him as saying.
Revealing chilling details, the 22-year-old Bangladesh all-rounder said, "We reached Dubai after overcoming a crisis. After landing, we heard a missile strike the airport 20 minutes after we took off. That was scary and sorrowful. We are now feeling relieved."
Describing the fear and panic among the players, Rishad added, "Whenever I go out to play, my family worries. After hearing about bomb blasts and missile strikes in Pakistan, they were naturally tense. I consoled them as much as I could."
The Pakistan Cricket Board was ultimately forced to postpone its Pakistan Super League on Friday following rising military tensions with India. The PCB said it acted on advice from Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
On Thursday, an Indian drone fell inside the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium complex hours before the start of a PSL game in which several cricketers from New Zealand, Australia, West Indies, South Africa, and England were due to compete.
