The Indian cricket fraternity woke up to the reports of Virat Kohli reportedly wanting to quit Test cricket. The former India captain has already conveyed to the BCCI that he doesn't wish to play red-ball cricket while the board wants him to play the five-match series against England. Social media is flooded with reactions on Virat's retirement reports and majority of people want him to play.

West Indies legend, Brian Lara also reacted to the report and sent a special message to Virat. The former WI captain predicted that Virat won't retire from Test cricket. "Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. @virat.kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career," he wrote on Instagram.

The BCCI will soon hold talks with Virat and convince him to be part of the England series. India will have an inexperienced middle-order in his absence. While he has struggled for runs of late, Virat is one of the best batsmen of the present generation and still has ample cricket left in him.

Should he retire from Tests, he will only be active in ODI cricket. Virat retired from the shortest format after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Recently, Rohit Sharma also quit Test cricket and he is only active in ODIs now. Rohit is set to lead the Men in Blue in the 2027 World Cup.

Virat Kohli's Test career

Virat Kohli made his Test debut against West Indies in 2011 but got dropped early in his career. The right-handed batsman cemented his spot in the playing XI during the 2011/12 Australia tour.

He made his Test captaincy debut in 2014 and led the team on a full-time basis till 2022. With 40 wins from 68 Tests, Virat is India's most successful Test captain. He has 9230 runs in 123 Tests.
