Virat Kohli is reportedly done playing Test cricket and he has already informed the BCCI about it. The board wants Virat to play the England Test series. A final word on Virat's future should be out before the selection meeting for the England tour. Virat played his previous Test match against Australia Down Under.
As the reports of Virat's retirement surfaced, his old statement on retirement went viral. During an appearance on Breakfast with Champions in 2018, Virat said that he would never drag himself and would stop playing the day he loses his passion.
"I have woken up feeling with a sense of detachment from what I am doing, thinking that I do not want to do this. But that has been because of excessive pressure that has been on me during a difficult phase. But still, I have had the ability to still tell myself, 'No, I will go out and try once more," he had said.
"The day you lose your will to go out and try once more, then you can't do anything, and no one can convince you. No chance. The motivation is about winning. The day I lose my passion, I will stop playing. I will never drag myself for more than my body can take."
Virat made his India debut back in 2008 and has been playing international cricket for 17 years. He made his T20I debut in 2010 and Test debut in 2011. Virat retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 World Cup while he is now planning to retire from Tests.
The former India captain will only play ODIs if he retires from Tests. Recently, Rohit Sharma also announced his retirement from Tests and he will only play ODIs. The India legend is set to lead India till the 2027 ODI World Cup.
