Virat Kohli has reportedly decided to quit Test cricket and the India legend has informed the BCCI about it. The BCCI though wants Virat to travel to England for the all-important five-match Test series. An official word on Virat's future will be out in the next few days.
Social media is flooded with requests for Virat to continue playing Tests. But England's County Championship took a dig at Virat. The Country Championship shared a video of batsmen struggling in England and captioned the post: "We don't blame you Virat."
Virat made his first Test tour of England in 2011. He didn't get a game after coming in as a replacement player. He returned to England during the five-match Test series in 2014. Virat struggled in the series and only managed to score 134 runs at an average of 13.40.
Virat was India's all-format captain when India's Test team returned to England in 2018. While India lost the series, Virat shone with the bat and piled up 593 runs in 10 innings. He batted at an average of 59.30 and hit 2 centuries. He was the only batsman with more than 350 runs in the series.
Virat-led India returned to England for a five-match series in 2021. The series was cancelled after 4 Tests. India were 2-1 ahead before the visitors returned. Virat scored 218 runs in 4 games. The fifth Test was played in 2022 under Jasprit Bumrah's leadership.
Should Virat retire before the England tour, he will finish his career with five Test tours of the country. Virat has scored 9230 runs in 123 Tests so far at an average of 46.85. He once had an average of more than 50.
Virat has 30 centuries and 51 half-centuries in red-ball cricket. He made his Test debut in 2011 and cemented his spot in the final XI during the Australia tour later that year.
