The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was suspended midway for a week on May 9 (Friday). This was due to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, which have been escalated due to constant unwarranted aggression from the latter. There were questions as to when the mega tournament might resume again, with just 16 matches to go. Now, it looks like the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) might have a plan B in place.

According to a report by ESPN Cricinfo, the BCCI is making a plan in case it gets the clearance from the Government of India to resume the IPL 2025 in May itself. The apex Indian cricketing body has shortlisted three venues in case the tournament starts soon- in Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Chennai. As stated by Sports Now earlier, three of these stadiums are the safest in India right now since they are furthest from any international border.

Even though the BCCI is making plans in case the IPL 2025 starts in May, the board has acknowledged, according to the report, that it is difficult to resume the IPL quickly, given the situation right now. Some franchise officials have informed ESPN Cricinfo that the IPL 2025 is likely to start sometime later in the year.

The biggest challenge for the BCCI would be to recall foreign players, who disbanded immediately after the IPL 2025 was called off. While the BCCI has assured that most of them would return, the report states that several international players might not be willing to play if the IPL 2025 extends the original deadline of May 25, when the final was scheduled to be played in Kolkata. This is because of bilateral commitments of these players, and also the WTC 2025 final between South Africa and Australia, which is set to begin on June 11.
