The cricket fraternity woke up to the shocking reports of Virat Kohli telling the BCCI about his wish to retire from Test cricket. Reportedly, BCCI wants Virat Kohli on the flight to England, but the ball is in Virat Kohli's court. Kohli is yet to respond to BCCI's request to reconsider his decision.
The developments were confirmed by a BCCI source, saying that the board has requested Kohli to take time before taking a call on retirement. “He's still incredibly fit and hungry. His presence in the dressing room lifts the entire team,” said a senior BCCI official was quoted by NDTV. “We've requested him to take some time before making a final call.”

Virat Kohli Wanted Test Captaincy: Report

Meanwhile, a report in The Times of India revealed that Virat Kohli requested BCCI for Test captaincy, however, it was refused by the board as they wanted a young leader, preferably Shubman Gill, to lead the side. "A new WTC cycle is starting. Future and continuity have to be kept in mind as far as the team is concerned. Even coach Gautam Gambhir would want a set of players he is likely to work with for an extended period. There can't be any stop-gap solutions for such an important series. The last two series haven't been ideal for the team and the England series is crucial," a source was quoted by TOI.
The report further added that Kohli told his teammates several times during the Australia tour that he was done with Test cricket. Kohli had a bad run in Australia and scored just 190 runs in five Tests, including a century. The report does not confirm whether the dip in form or the BCCI's refusal to hand over the Test captaincy was the reason behind his decision.
