The BCCI on Friday (May 9) decided to suspend IPL 2025 for a week due to ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan. The announcement came a day after the match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was suspended midway due to technical failure. Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were scheduled to host Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the 59th match of the tournament on the day the tournament was suspended.
The fans will have to wait for at least one week to get an update on the tournament's future. The BCCI might schedule the remaining matches after the England tour, scheduled to end on August 4. In 2021 too, the second half of the IPL was played after the England tour.
MS Dhoni, who is leading Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2025, might not continue as the captain when the tournament resumes as Ruturaj Gaikwad will get fit soon.
The full-time CSK captain was ruled out of the season due to an elbow fracture for 4 to 6 weeks. CSK announced the injury to Ruturaj on April 11. Ruturaj will get fully fit in the next few days and he will be ready to resume the captaincy duties.
Ruturaj will be confirmed to lead CSK if the tournament is played after the England tour. The Yellow Army roped in Ayush Mhatre as Ruturaj's replacement. But they might have an option to retain him as some of the overseas players might be forced to skip IPL due to their international commitments.
With just 3 wins from 12 matches, CSK are at the last spot in the points table and they are already out of IPL 2025. They have 6 points in their account. The five-time IPL Champions are only scheduled to play 2 more matches in the season. Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals are two other teams which have been ruled out of the tournament from the league stage.
