The World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 is all set to begin for India with their series against England from June 20. This will be crucial for the Team as they would aim to do well after failing to qualify for the WTC final for the first time ever. Now, India would be going for a good campaign so that they can qualify foe the final in 2027. It looks like there could also be a possibility where India could play at home if they qualify for the marquee ICC event.
According to a report by The Guardian, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put forth the proposal to host the final of the WTC 2025-27 cycle at the meeting of the ICC chief executives committee in Zimbabwe.
“The Guardian has learned that India expressed their intention to bid for the 2027 final at a meeting of the ICC’s chief executives committee in Zimbabwe last month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is represented on the ICC committee by its chief executive, Arun Singh Dhumal, while his predecessor Jay Shah is chair of the ICC, so a formal Indian bid would be regarded as a fait accompli," the report stated.
ICC Concerned About Moving WTC Final To India
If it does happen, then this will be the first time that the WTC final will be held in any venue outside England. The WTC 2021 took place at the Rose Bowl in Southampton, the 2023 one took place at The Oval and the 2025 one will take place at Lord's.
The ICC, however, have concerns of moving the WTC final to India. This is because ticket sales could take a huge hit should India not qualify for the final. England is an ideal venue, according to the report, because the keen interest in the domestic summer provides keen interest among spectators.
