After the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals had to be called off on Thursday at the HPCA Stadium, Dharamshala midway amid escalating tensions on the India-Pakistan border, there is uncertainty over the remaining matches of the season.
Both PBKS and DC shared a point each. With airports and airspace shut across North India, the BCCI said they would arrange a special train to evacuate the players from Pathankot, located about 85 km from Dharamshala. The teams will travel by road to Pathankot.
Dharamshala's lone airport, along with the ones in neighbouring Kangra and Chandigarh, are currently closed as part of precautionary measures to prevent potential Pakistani attacks.
As per the IPL 2025 schedule, Lucknow Super Giants are set to take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Thursday's match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamshala was abandoned due to air raid alerts in Jammu and Pathankot, not far from the hill town.
The BCCI is currently awaiting the Indian government's directive on conducting the remaining matches of the league amid conflict between India and Pakistan, with the Indian air defence foiling Pakistani attempts to target major Indian cities with drones and missiles.
Amid these heightened tensions, Arun Dhumal, the IPL chairperson, said that the match between LSG and RCB "is on as of now".
"We are reviewing the situation right now," Dhumal, quoted as saying by PTI, when asked about the continuation of IPL 2025. "It is an evolving situation. We have not received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind."
When asked about Friday's game between Lucknow and Bengaluru, he said: "Yes it is on as of now but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind."
With foreign players of the IPL franchises weighing up options in the wake of the rapidly evolving situation, the uncertainty further deepened. The Cricket West Indies said they are monitoring the situation closely, the Australians players have reportedly been also keeping a close eye on the development.
The IPL final is scheduled on May 25.
