Rohit Sharma will not travel to England - confirmed! Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket days before India's squad announcement. Rohit wasn't in great form, but the move still was a surprise as Rohit had expressed his desire to lead India in England on a podcast with Michael Clarke.

Indian selectors will now have to find a suitable replacement for Rohit, the batter and captain. India have a few options when it comes to leading India, with Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, and Jasprit Bumrah in the fray. In terms of replacement as an opener, India could give Sai Sudharsan a chance in the squad.

With Rohit out, India would want Virat Kohli in the squad given his experience. Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant, Nitish Reddy, and Dhruv Jurel should also find a place in the squad. India would need an extra batter, and Devdutt Paddikal's injury might push them towards picking Sarfaraz Khan. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja should be the spin bowling options in the squad, while Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana can be fast bowlers.

The series gets underway on June 20 in Leeds. The second Test will be played from July 2 in Birmingham. The third Test will start on July 10 at Lord's. Manchester will host the fourth Test from July. 23. The series will conclude with the fifth Test at the Oval in London.

India have not won a Test series in England since 2007. They came close in the 2021-22 tour when they took a 2-1 lead, however, England won the fifth Test and drew the series.
