IPL 2025 to go on as per schedule after India's successful Operation Sindoor
Despite growing tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Premier League will go on as planned. Even while the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) keeps a careful eye on the situation, an India Today report stated that there is currently no alteration to the IPL schedule.
The IPL 2025 season has seen 56 of the 74 games played, and the playoff battle is getting fiercer. The Indian Premier League (IPL), which started on May 22, has continued even after the Pahalgam Terror Attack which killed 26 tourists on April 22.
In response to the terror attack in Pahalgam, India began Operation Sindoor on Wednesday, a tri-service counter-offensive that involved coordinated attacks against nine terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Notably, the incident was claimed by a group identifying itself as The Resistance Front (TRF), which is acknowledged as a stand-in for the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba.
"BCCI is monitoring the situation and depending on circumstances, a call will be taken. For now, the IPL will run as per schedule," a BCCI source told India Today.
Speaking to India Today on Tuesday, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal stated that the BCCI will follow government regulations and take appropriate action when called upon.
"The IPL Governing Council is keeping an eye on the situation. There are a lot of speculative things going on; we cannot do anything about that. But whenever the time comes to take such a decision where it seems that something needs to be done in the country's interest, then the BCCI will stand in solidarity with the government and the nation," he said.
Notably, batting great Sunil Gavaskar expressed optimism that the IPL will proceed as planned on Tuesday, saying he has not heard any foreign player or commentator voice concerns about safety in India.
"No, I don't think so. I think everybody here in India is feeling very safe and secure. There is no need to worry. We have the utmost faith in our Armed Forces. We have so much love and affection for them; we have been living peacefully all these years. We have the utmost confidence, faith, and trust in them. I don't think any overseas players are feeling insecure. Not that anybody has ever said anything to me," he said.
Chennai Super Kings will be going one-on-one against Kolkata Knight Riders at the iconic Eden Gardens in match 57 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday, May 7.
