IPL 2025: MI Might Face 470 Km Road Trip for PBKS Game Amid India-Pak Tensions After Operation Sindoor

The Indian Army carried out Operation Sindoor at the wee hours of the morning, where they hit nine separate terror camps in Pakistan and PoK, inr response to the dastardly attack on tourists in Pahalgam just two weeks ago. After that, ther have been several steps taken by the government amid escaltating tensions between India and Pakistan, including the temporary shutdown of airports in border areas. This decision might affect the IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS).
MI are all set to take on PBKS in a crucial encounter in the race for the IPL 2025 playoffs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala. However, the Dharamasala airport has been shut down after Operation Sindoor, and even Chandigarh Airport is not operational as of now.
A BCCI source confirmed to The Times of India that MI might have to travel by road to Dharamsala from Delhi Airport. The distance is nearly 470 km between Delhi and Dharamsala. This means that MI might have to undergo a 9-hour-long road trip.
"We will have to wait and watch for now. There is no option because even Chandigarh airport is shut so we need to see what can be done. Two teams are already here and MI were supposed to arrive later this week for their match on May 11. The nearest option is the Delhi airport but that would mean a long road journey for the teams. We are tracking government advisories and will take the call as necessary," a BCCI source told the publication.
How MI Can Qualify For Playoffs
Mumbai Indians were on a brilliant run where they won 6 games on the trot. However, their winning run was halted by Gujarat Titans. MI are now on 14 points from 12 games which means they have 2 matches left. They need to win those 2 games to qualify for the IPL 2025 Playoffs. If they lose one game, they might be at risk of being overtaken by Kolkata Knight Riders in the 4th spot.
However, if they lose both matches, they will be knocked out of the IPL 2025.
