  • The tri-series is being played in Sri Lanka
  • The Premadasa Stadium is hosting all matches
The high-scoring thrilling clash between India and South Africa in the ongoing Women's ODI tri-series on Wednesday (May 7) was stopped due to bad light with two overs left in the match, and the game headed for a tense finish despite the presence of floodlights at the iconic R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
After South African skipp Chloe Tyron's 39-ball 69, the Proteas were given hope of an unlikely win as they needed 39 runs to win in two overs while still having four wickets in hand. However, the umpires realised that the light was not fit to play and decided to stop the game for a few minutes before it started again in time to complete the game.

Why Were Floodlights Not Used In India-South Africa Match?

The Premadasa Stadium is among cricket's most famed arenas. However, the big question is why the lights were not used instead of players being taken off. Even when the players returned to complete the match in the fading light, the floodlights were not turned on.
The decision was made because the playing conditions for the tri-series determined that the floodlights would not be used. Before every series, the captains of the team decide on the regulations, and they agreed to play the series without the use of lights, with all matches being day games.
As far as the match is concerned after the re-start, Indian bowlers made no mistakes and sealed a 23-run victory. This means that they have sealed their place in the final with three victories in four matches. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side will face Sri Lanka in the summit clash on Sunday (May 11).
Earlier, India posted a huge score of 337 on the board with Jemimah Rodrigues making a knock of 123 in 101 balls while Deepti Sharma made 84-ball 93.
