Paris FC will be back in the French top flight next year after a hiatus of 46 years. They earned promotion to Ligue 1 on Friday following a 1-1 draw against Martigues.

Along with Paris FC, Ligue 2 leaders Lorient have also secured promotion, with the top two teams entitled to promotion.

With their promotion, Paris FC will join their famed rivals Paris Saint-Germain in Ligue 1. This will mark the first time in 35 years that two clubs from the French capital will compete in the top flight in the same season.

The fans were ecstatic with Paris FC's qualification, while club president Pierre Ferracci was seen celebrating wildly as his 13-year wait ended with aplomb.

Ferracci took over as president of Paris FC in 2012, at a time when the club was languishing in the third tier of French football. However, he dreamt of bringing them back to Ligue 1.

The club came into being in 1969. They played three seasons in Ligue 1 earlier, the last being in the 1978-1979 season. This season, the club witnessed two historic moments: promotion to Ligue 1 and investment from the Arnault family. The Arnaults became the majority shareholders and are also expected to take full control at the end of the 2026-2027 season.

Paris FC are now expected to go on a spending spree by procuring quality players to sustain themselves in Ligue 1. However, the Arnault family's investment is yet to be utilised by the club.

Paris has not had two clubs in the top division since Racing Paris 1 - formerly Matra Racing - were relegated in 1990.

Now, with the promotion of Paris FC, the city of Paris will enjoy one of the greatest derbies. With their promotion, Paris FC will also move to a new home as they leave Stade Charléty to move into Stade Jean-Bouin. Their new home is only 50 metres away from Paris Saint-Germain’s Parc des Princes.
