Mohammed Shami OUT? Ex-India Star's Massive India Squad Prediction For Test Series Vs England

Team India will next be seen in action when they travel to England for a five-match Test Series beginning on June 20. This will be a crucial tour as it marks the first foray into action for the team in the World Test Championship 2025-27, as they look to brush off the disappointment of not qualifying for the WTC 2025 final. India missed the services of Mohammed Shami in the tour to Australia in December-January, and now that he is fit, he is expected to be a certainty in the squad for the England tour. However, former India batter Aakash Chopra has expressed concerns.
Mohammed Shami has had a pretty poor IPL 2025 for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), who picked him up for Rs 10 crore at the IPL 2025 auction. He has picked up 6 wickets from 9 games at an economy rate of 11.23. He also broke the embarrassing record of the Indian to concede the most runs in an IPL match when he gave away 75 runs vs Punjab Kings.
Hence, this poor IPL form has prompted Aakash Chopra to think whether Shami would be included at all in the India squad for the tour to England.
"Of course, this (IPL 2025 form) is one story. The other is the tour of England. All of us were harping about the fact that the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah was alone, there was no Shami, and if there was Shami how things would have been different. But will there be Shami is the question. And what kind of Shami?" Chopra said in an interaction with ESPN Cricinfo.
'Shami's Pace Has Gone Down'
Aakash Chopra also pointed out that Mohammed Shami's pace has gone down since his injury break. In fact, he is also not bowling consistently in a single area, which is what made his dangerous.
"This tournament is such that it doesn't matter who you are. If you're not delivering the goods, you will be taken to the cleaners. And right now, what I see with Shami is, pace down is one bit, second is not enough balls getting bowled in the same area. Mohammed Shami was always that. That is his only strength , it is phenomenal,"
