Rajasthan Royals (RR) will take on Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, in the 50th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) this season. While Mumbai Indians are coming off a brilliant five-match winning streak, the Rajasthan Royals have lost the plot midway into the season and find themselves eighth in the points table. With four more matches for the Royals this season, a loss here would knock them out of the playoff race.
For Rajasthan, a young 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has brought an element of freshness into the side, and his century against the Gujarat Titans (GT) has lit up the IPL 2025 in more than one way. The sheer fearlessness of that inning, clubbed with some brilliant clean hitting, has forced the world to stand up and notice, drawing comparisons with the great Sachin Tendulkar, who made his first-class debut at the age of 15.
Suryavanshi smashed 7 fours and 11 sixes en route to his 38-ball 101 at the top of the order and believes in taking the attack to the opposition right from the word go. And that makes his match-up with Jasprit Bumrah even more exciting.
India's tour of Australia earlier in the year had its fair share of moments, but none more enthralling than a 19-year-old Sam Konstas taking Bumrah to the cleaners on debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on the first day of the Boxing Day Test match. Konstas (60 off 65) eventually lost his wicket to Ravindra Jadeja, but not before taking Bumrah for a record 18-run over that included two fours, a six, and a couple of twos. Konstas played some outrageous reverse scoops over the slip cordon that left Bumrah visibly rattled, although he got the better of him in the second innings.
Suryavanshi is just 14, and perhaps even more fearless. Konstas might have copped a fair bit of criticism if it didn't come off in a Test match, but that did not deter him from trying it out. This is a T20 match, and that perhaps gives Suryavanshi the license to go for it, not that he cares anyway as a 14-year-old. Like Konstas, Suryavanshi is an attacking player, and it has everything in it to be an edge-of-the-seat battle. One thing is for sure. Young Suryavanshi won't die wondering.
